"On the plus side there is no minimum balance or monthly maintenance fees and interest is accrued monthly."
I would be careful with HSBC Bank promises. I have opened several years ago a free, no balance internet checking account. The last two months they imposed a $3 maintenance fee on my account. When I inquired about the fee they said that because I did not have any activity the last 3 months and now they changed my account to basic checking, which is a lie because the past 12 months every month I pay my student loans and my credits cards using this checking account. When I brought up my activity, the second customer service agent wrote that my payments are automatic payments and not count toward customer activity. This is another lie because I don't have automatic payments. I pay on different dates, different amounts using my online account.

It is apparent that HSBC is willing to break their customer agreement and willing to lie for their cause. Most of these customer service agents have an Indian name. I wonder how long the US Government let these foreign banks exploit US customers with switch and bait tactic and when they are going to crack down on dishonest banking practices committed by foreign banks like HSBC.
